Tanami Road Visit
October 28, 2015
The two day trip down the Tanami Road was an invaluable opportunity to explore first-hand the huge potential benefits for WA's far north if the WA, NT and Commonwealth Governments were to jointly fund a significant upgrade.
The road is 1014 kilometres long, and runs from the Great Northern Highway, just south of Halls Creek, to the Stuart Highway near Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory, and is a vital link that serves Aboriginal communities and the tourism, pastoral and mining industries.
The trip was intended to highlight the economic benefits that would flow from fully sealing the road. Demonstrating the significance of the issue, the trip also included WA Transport Minister Dean Nalder and NT Transport and Infrastructure Minister Peter Chandler.
