World AIDS Day 2017 Parliamentary Breakfast
December 07, 2017
As the Chair of the Parliamentary Liaison Group for HIV/AIDS, Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmitted Infections, I was delighted to attend this morning’s World AIDS Day Parliamentary Breakfast. With my Co-Chair, Senator Lisa Singh, it was great to welcome leaders in the HIV/AIDS response and community organisations as well as my parliamentary colleagues including Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Health the Hon Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Education and Training Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, Minister for International Development and the Pacific Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Member for Ryan the Hon Jane Prentice MP, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong - Senator for SA, Shadow Minister for Health the Hon Catherine King MP, Senator Richard Di Natale and others. A wonderful morning to reflect on the achievements our country has made – from home of the Grim Reaper to the ambitious 90:90:90 UNAIDS target within reach – and commemorate those whose lives have been lost and those in our community living with HIV and AIDS who still face stigma and discrimination.
