STATEMENT
DEVESTATING FLOODS IN NEPAL AND TIBET
The devastating flooding across Nepal and Tibet is a terrible tragedy, with lives lost, communities devastated, and hundreds of people still unaccounted for.
My thoughts are with all those affected, particularly those who have lost loved ones, those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed, and the many families still desperately waiting for news.
Of particular concern are the Australians reported missing in the disaster.
I know this will be an incredibly anxious time for their families and friends here at home.
Australia has a strong and vibrant Nepalese community, including in Western Australia, and I know many will be deeply concerned for family, friends and communities affected by this disaster.
Our thoughts are also with the people of Tibet and all those affected across the Himalayan border region as rescue and recovery efforts continue.
